An Invitation to Live: Rethinking Suicide Prevention | Barry Taylor

For nearly four decades, health sociologist Barry Taylor has worked in suicide prevention and mental wellbeing across New Zealand and Australia.

Drawing on both professional and lived experience, Barry explores compassionate conversations, connection, purpose and meaning. He shares four foundations for suicide-prevention work—comfort, confidence, competence and compassion—and explains why others may need to hold hope for us when we cannot hold it ourselves.

This is a deeply personal conversation about seeing the person behind the distress, listening without trying to fix them, and inviting people not only to live, but to thrive.

Hosted by Ivan Yeo for Authenticity Studio™.

Content note: This episode discusses suicide, suicidal thoughts, depression, anxiety, trauma and mental distress.
